In order to near the school with the roma community, to realize the linkage between them, the idea of this programme was born exactly a year ago.
Seeing the success of the one week long programme series, we have already known that we have to continue it.
When the youngsters from Tótvázsony asked us in what could we cooperate
I was asking for help in the application to realize this programme.
To my great joy the caller of the application considered our concept worthy to realize,
therefore a wider circle can get to know our efforts.
We live in the same country, we live together our joys and troubles.
Our children live their lives in the community of the school and the family.
We have to get to know the families, we have to learn each others past, customs, conduct.
After getting acquainted the understanding and the acceptance is easier.
The respect for each other takes shape, which helps to solve the inevitably arising conflicts as well.
My son went to America several times lately,
I asked him what is the most conspicuous feature of the people living in the overseas.
He said that they dare to look in each others eyes,
they are open for the human connections.
Isn't it the same here? - I asked it fondly.
He just asked me:
Have you ever looked or smiled at a person who you didn't or just slightly know?
How did she/he react on that?
Since then I was wondering a lot about this question.
Yes, many times we just pass by each others without greetings,
however we know each other, adults and children as well.
Do we afraid of each others look?
It happened not a long time ago right here that a kid hit one of his fellow.
As an answer to my question -Why you did this? - he only said that:
Because he was looking at.
I think there are a lot of things to do
to the peolpe could look in each others eyes without prejudices.
In this field we have plenty of tasks as educators.
We have to strenghten the idea in our pupils that in this country
we have to create our future together.
“We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”
I share the thoughts of Mother Teresa. Thank you!
In Hungary the Romas are the biggest, officialy recognized minority
Roma people live in every area of the country
likewise in Nagyvázsony.
For the society to live in peace next to each other
I consider it essential to know each other's culture, traditions and customs
Ethnography brings the people one step closer to each other
It helps to accept the diversity based on the differences in the cultures and customs
Getting acquainted with the habits and the behaviour of an ethnic group represents the bridge between two roads
That's why I consider a huge opportunity this one week programee
where whe have the occasion to present the Roma culture for the second time
The ethnography classes in the forenoon,
the exhibition and the programmes of the afternoon
The Roma Minority Self-Government would like to say thank you to the school,
guarantee the good atmosphere to everyone
to the administration of the school for having us here with this beautiful programme for the second time.
Thank you for the help to Kandiko Rita, the president of the Fekete Sereg Youth Association
And for the support of the Youth Association in Tótvázsony.
The next short poem - what I wrote - is addressed to the Roma pupils in the school
When I was a little child
I was happy all the time
When I went to school I felt ashemed a lot
My long hair was always plaited
and my heart was in great sorrow
I became an adult by now
and I'm happy again
My long hair is still plaited
Last time I started with a quote from Mother Teresa, therefore I'm glad that Erika continued it.
For this year I chose a different one.
I chose Nick Vujicic. Some of you might saw his video.
He is a man with Serbian origins who was born without arms and legs.
He is a preacher and I think what is he doing can give us a lot of strength in our work right here.
I chose this quote from him:
"You can only win, if you don't give up. Go for it. Don't let anything hold you back.
If nothing's holding me back, what's holding you back?"
I'm really glad that we can be here in the primary school for the second time.
Erika the principal and Évi also encourage us on their enthusiastic ways, they say that we can do it together.
And it's a special joy for us that the Youth Association of Tótvázsony could support us
through a TÁMOP application, called "Értékõrök" (value's guards)
And I also think that, in the last year we recorded a short video each day
more than 1000 person saw these videos about every day
This year we also make our videos about each day
and I hope that who couldn't come now, for example your parents
or you can watch them again in the future
When I'm watching it again now, it is a really good feeling that we could participate in such an event
and our organization could give its name to it.
And I can only repeat myself that not too many of us can realize a project like this
where an institution, a minority self-government and a non-governmental organization
work together in the are of the Roma which is a hot topic for us in Hungary.
We can show a good example together,
we can unite, we can create values and we can make a change.
It's not sure that we reach every kid, but if you come more and you return next year
then maybe you are going to think about the Roma culture in a different way
becaus there is a lot of value in it
and the media gives less information about this side and more about the negativities
Therefore I would like if more and more children could come
Let's continue it next year as well,
to learn more about the Roma culture, about its values
because we don't know so much about it
So let's learn together! Let there be a continuation next year, with the 3rd one!
So thank you for everyone! Let's start the programmes!
